The Matassa Brutal Rouge is made from Syrah from old vines and some nutmeg petit grain with a maceration of only 3 days. The nutmeg comes through nicely on the nose, resulting in a really funky combination with the Syrah. Mega drinking flow and a spicy, berry fruit (dark raspberry and ripe strawberry) mixed with herbs and a nice, slight wildness.
On the palate, the Matassa - Brutal Rouge is full of energy, precise and long lasting while mega varied, never boring or exhausting. With a little patience and time, a great wine opens up. Extremely limited, so be quick.
As with all Matassa wines, there is no addition of sulfur or other additives, the work in the vineyard is paramount here and that is skillfully demonstrated.
